We decided the official start time outside should be nine o'clock. After all, when dealing with fire and such, it is better not to be too immersed in the festivities if you get my drift. We all headed outside. We had 30 or so lumieres lined up lighting a path to the field. As Queen, I gave a short speech welcoming all who came and honoring the major contributors. I pulled 48-calibur out of a bale of hay(okay so it wasnt a rock) and bestowed upon Lord Mushroom, his offspring Master Spore, and Sir Slursalot, the highest honor of the land, the "Single Malt Award of Valor" Immediately following the ceremony, the recreation of the Battle of Buddrick(known as B.O.B) began.
The bean bags were soaked in kerosene and ignited, then thrown(impressively I might add) by the trebuchet towards the rabbit. It took a couple of tries and then success. The rabbit was aflame. Perhaps with the aid of Master Spore. Air attacks were not the only methods used in this great battle. There were melee attacks as well.
This rabbit did not stand a chance. And so it burned.
And the people rejoiced. And the food and drink flowed. There was much in the way of laughing and dancing. About 30 of us shared in this silly festive event. You may ask yourself if it is worth it to go to all of that trouble for just one evening? You bet your ass it is!
For me, the great part is bearing witness to people coming together to create a magical time. I love and admire the tenacity, ingenuity, and creativity shown on the part of Tim and Pete. Lorna, McKay, Colin, and Lynn also contributed in many ways. Together they created a wonderful and memorable evening. I hope their internal fires forever burn.
Cheers!
